Approximately one-third of Bronx residents are currently living below the poverty line and this year alone, POTS will help close to 37,000 people, including 9,000 children, with a multitude of needs.
POTS’ services address the varying issues and complexities that accompany poverty by helping clients find stability across areas such as financial wellbeing, health, education, housing and day-to-day needs. By providing comprehensive and personalized support to our clients, we are able to tailor support to their unique circumstances and help navigate a pathway forward.
In 2019:
- Approximately 178,000 meals served in the Community Dining Room
- Over 972,000 nutritious meals provided by groceries from the Food Pantry
- 11,500 people helped by the Mail and Shower Facilities, Barbershop, and Clothing Closet
- 1,500 children and adults received back-to-school supplies, Thanksgiving turkeys, and holiday gifts
- Over 843 households received legal representation and the clinic prevented 430 households from being evicted
- Over 13,550 households received counseling, information, and referrals that helped them access shelters, drug or alcohol treatment, health services, financial counseling, educational programs, immigration services, and job training
- Nearly $12,000,000 received by POTS clients in ongoing, annual benefits as a result of screening, application assistance and legal representation to access public benefits, such as Earned Income Tax Credit, SNAP, health insurance, and Social Security, generating significant economic activity for the low-income community POTS serves
- 107 full- or part-time job secured through POTS workforce development and 156 people were connected to job-training services.
