Part of the Solution (POTS) held its annual Spring Gala on Wednesday, May 26th and honored two POTS heroes, Chris Bean and Maureen Gomez. Open Door, Open Heart, was the second benefit held virtually due to the pandemic and it raised over $300,000 for POTS programs.
Honoree Chris Bean, who was Executive Director from 2012-2018, led POTS during a period of extensive growth and improvement in the quality of POTS services. Maureen Gomez established herself over many years as one of the most dedicated volunteers ever to serve the organization, overseeing the POTS community holiday meals for over a decade. Each holiday meal involves hundreds of volunteers and serves as many as 600 guests.
Hosted by CBS-2 News Anchor Mary Calvi, the event featured artists, entertainers, and community leaders including Congressman Adriano Espaillat, and MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle was on hand to introduce the honorees. It also included a tour of POTS, touching stories told in the words of POTS’ clients, and plenty of laughs by Comedian Dave Goldstein.
Open Door, Open Heart gives an excellent introduction to POTS and the loving community it has been developing for nearly 40 years.
